Join us on this week’s Black Doctors Talk Podcast which features our guest, Dr. Vanessa Lopez-Littleton. Dr. Lopez-Littleton speaks to us on the topic of health disparities, mentorship and career transitions. Currently, she is an Associate Professor and Chair of the Department of Health, Human Services, and Public Policy at California State University, Monterey Bay (CSUMB).
During the podcast, Dr. Lopez-Littleton discusses her transition from being a U.S. Army veteran, to a registered nurse, to stepping into nonprofit work, to working in academia. She has worked at Grambling State University (HBCU) and University of Central Florida (PWI). Currently, she works at CSU MB which is an Hispanic Serving Institution (HSI). Dr. Lopez-Littleton’s area of expertise is health equity and seeking solutions to problems rooted in connections between health and neighborhood factors. She teaches and writes on the health consequences of political-economic processes such as poverty, inequality and racism.
Dr. Lopez-Littleton holds a Doctor of Philosophy in Public Affairs with an emphasis in health services management from the University of Central Florida. She holds a Master of Public Administration degree from Louisiana State University and a Bachelor of Science in Nursing from Northwestern State University.
