For many, the Christmas season is an especially painful time. It is not, as the holiday classic says, "the most wonderful time of the year." Feelings other than joy seem "out of place" and alienate those who are struggling. We are people who are familiar with darkness. Our suffering is real. Therefore our hope needs to be real. Jesus is our concrete, living hope—our Light in this present darkness.
