Carl Hiaasen is a novelist best known for writing humorous and satiric crime thrillers set in Florida. His latest novel, Squeeze Me, satirizes life in Palm Beach during the era of the last president, and features a thinly disguised Trump waddling through his digs at Mar a Lago, here called Casa Bellacosa. He is also a regular columnist for The Miami Herald, appearing every Sunday to discuss political and social issues. He is interviewed by host Richard Wolinsky.
In this in-depth interview, he discusses the writing of Squeeze Me and how difficult it has been to create satire during the Trump years, his views on the current Governor of Florida, and the process of writing comic thrillers. Complete 44-minute interview.
Alla Kovgan, director and writer of the film “Cunningham,” about the choreographer and dancer Merce Cunningham, is interviewed by host Richard Wolinsky.
“Cunningham” takes us from the 1940s to early 1970s in the work and career of Merce Cunningham (1919-2009), with many of his dances recreated in 3D. In this discussion, Alla Kovgan talks about the difficulty of translating dance to film, and how this film came to be created.
Variety: “Shot in glorious 3D that makes the technical mode feel indispensable (like in Wim Wenders’ comparable dance documentary “Pina,” sure, but also Ang Lee’s “Life of Pi” and even James Cameron’s “Avatar”), Kovgan’s ode to choreography master Merce Cunningham is sensational in every sense of the word.”
Currently, “Cunningham” is available streaming on Hulu, and can be rented via Amazon, Apple TV, and other streaming services.
:The complete 41-minute interview can be found as a Radio Wolinsky podcast.
