'BradCast' 7/13/2021 ('A Test of Our Time': Biden Steps Up on Voting Rights in Philadelphia)

On today's 'BradCast':  It feels like we are now in a battle to save democracy itself in America. President Joe Biden stood up to today to clearly spell out what is at stake in that fight, using his bully pulpit to press for the protection of voting rights and free and fair elections. In a stirring speech in Philadelphia, Biden outlined what is now at stake, declaring that 'we are facing the most significant test of democracy since the Civil War,' noting 'the Big Lie is just that: a big lie.' Biden called on Congress to pass federal voting rights reform legislation as 'a national imperative,' warning of measures being enacted in states to suppress the vote and overturn legitimate election results. Also today:  an excerpt from the new book, 'I Alone Can Fix It: Donald J. Trump's Catastrophic Final Year,' details what seems to have been the genesis of Trump's Big Lie as it developed on Election Night 2020, reportedly as the brain child of his tipsy personal lawyer Rudy Giuliani, who exhorted Trump to falsely claim 'we won' in every battleground state, denying the actual election returns. Trump's Big Lie has poisoned the nation's soul ever since, with GOP-controlled state legislatures using Trump's Big Lie as pretext to adopt severe new voting restrictions and measures to allow partisan officials to overturn election results for virtually any reason. Heroic Democratic state lawmakers from the Texas House of Representatives, who left the state to block the majority Republicans' new voter suppression law, are now in D.C. to lobby Congress to pass democracy reform and voting rights protections.
