On today's 'BradCast': Texas state Democratic lawmakers walked out of the state legislature to deprive Republican lawmakers of a quorum, halting a special legislative session called to adopt a massive voter suppression bill. Another round of extreme heat and extremely dry conditions amid a years-long mega-drought sparked enormous fires in Washington, Oregon, Nevada, Arizona, Idaho, Colorado and California. California's Democratic Gov. Gavin Newsom called for voluntary cutbacks in water usage of 15 percent by residents and businesses, and expanded the state's regional drought emergency. Over the weekend, CA state power officials also asked customers to cut back power usage after wildfire knocked out a major transmission line. With multiple emergencies underway, an election to recall Gov. Newsom launched by California Republicans will be held Sept. 14th. Bradblog.com legal analyst ERNEST A. CANNING argues that GOP policies in California are so unpopular that the party is unable to win any statewide elections unless they can engineer a takeover via a low-turnout recall election. Canning explains the prior progressive history of the state's recall process, how Republicans have perverted it for their own political ends, and outlines several reforms to help prevent much of the abuse that Republicans have implemented in recent years. Callers weigh in on all of the above.
