I have had the opportunity to read several books by
Mr. Vaughan, but this was one of the most intriguing, as well as most interesting. The storyline was very well covered and there was no excessive descriptive writing of the area; just plain coverage of the era involved. I recommend all of Mr. Vaughan's western novels to true readers of the old West. They are very entertaining and stays on key from beginning to end. Try'm you'll like like them all!

WOW--- I just found another favorite author! This is the second book I read by this author and it was just as good as the previous 5 star book I read by Mr. Vaughan. I feel the situations he writes about are realistic, exciting and also informative. I never realized how involved a cattle drive would be and all the preparation and situations involved. This author makes me feel like I'm in the story. This is not your typical shoot the bad guy and ride off into the sunset with the lady.
Good western
Book 2 follows Cadeâs life through ups and downs. Lots of ups and one tragic down but some what predictable. Story is probably more real than other westerns. Some characters are one or two dimensional but I was ok with that. Since this series is told autobiographical Cade only witnesses many characters in a particular situation.
Enjoyable Follow Up to the First Book
This book was an enjoyable follow up to the first book. As always Vaughan doesn't disappoint. His characters are fully developed and the story flows nicely.

I read the second Cade McCall book first, before backing up to read this one, because it was so masterfully written. Vaughan draws you into the story and you feel like you're part of the adventure. This is a great book and I'm looking forward to reading the third one in the series.
