Prime Minister Mark Carney has announced major new affordability measures ahead of Budget 2025, including a national automatic tax filing system to help low-income Canadians access benefits they’re missing out on. Starting in 2026, the program will simplify taxes for millions and ensure those most in need receive vital credits.
The government is also making the National School Food Program permanent, with $216.6 million in yearly funding to feed 400,000 children, and renewing the “Canada Strong Pass” to give Canadians free or discounted access to parks, museums, and rail travel.
These initiatives signal what Carney calls a “responsible and pragmatic” approach to building a stronger, fairer Canada.
