Celebration and Thanksgiving – after David’s and Israel’s abundant freewill offerings to supply the building materials needed for the temple/house of the LORD in Jerusalem (a successful capital campaign), David tells the people to “Bless YHWH your God.” The entire assembly bows in homage and blesses Yahweh.


Their worship lasts into a second day with vast animal sacrifices and offerings to the LORD. Then verse 22 paints a powerful picture: “And they ate and drank before YHWH on that day with great gladness.”

Whether its Abraham (Gen 18:4-5), Moses and the elders on Mt Sinai (Ex 24:9-11); Martha, Mary & Lazarus (John 12:1-2); or the Messianic Banquet to come (Rev 19:6), eating and drinking in the presence of the LORD with great gladness runs through both testaments into eternity, and we are blessed to eat and drink in His presence with great gladness today at His table and following worship in brunch form as we too “Bless YHWH” for our capital campaign: Firm Foundation, Faithful Future!
