Celebrating Suffrage: Jackson County Was Home To NC’s First Woman State Senator

This week is the 100th anniversary of the passage of the 19th amendment of the U.S. Constitution that guaranteed women the right to vote. It was another year before it was ratified by the majority of states. It took another 10 years for the first woman to be elected to the NC Senate - she was from Jackson County.
