Opening Scripture: James 1:22-25 But be ye doers of the word, and not hearers only, deceiving your own selves. For if any be a hearer of the word, and not a doer, he is like unto a man beholding his natural face in a glass: For he beholdeth himself, and goeth his way, and straightway forgetteth what manner of man he was. But whoso looketh into the perfect law of liberty, and continueth therein, he being not a forgetful hearer, but a doer of the work, this man shall be blessed in his deed.

Acts 4:29-33 And now, Lord, behold their threatenings: and grant unto Thy servants, that with all boldness they may speak Thy word, By stretching forth Thine hand to heal; and that signs and wonders may be done by the name of Thy holy child Jesus. And when they had prayed, the place was shaken where they were assembled together; and they were all filled with the Holy Ghost, and they spake the word of God with boldness.

And the multitude of them that believed were of one heart and of one soul: neither said any of them that ought of the things which he possessed was his own; but they had all things common. And with great power gave the apostles witness of the resurrection of the Lord Jesus: and great grace was upon them all.

The Holy Ghost Was Promised by Jesus Christ (John 14:12-17). Originally prophesied by (Joel 2:28-29). Re-iterated by the Apostle Peter in (Acts 2:17-18). And before The Ghost was given, before the death, resurrection and ascension of Jesus Christ, He Himself gave all His 12 original disciples a taste of the Holy Ghost before the promise came to pass

Matthew 10:1;7-8 (V:1) And when He had called unto Him His twelve disciples, He gave them power against unclean spirits, to cast them out, and to heal all manner of sickness and all manner of disease. (V:7-8) And as ye go, preach, saying, The kingdom of heaven is at hand. Heal the sick, cleanse the lepers, raise the dead, cast out devils: freely ye have received, freely give.

So the first century church, who were literally under the tutelage of Jesus Christ Himself, whom also experienced the power of the Holy Ghost in ministry without measure. Preached the Gospel in all the known world. The most anointed and selfless generation who will ever live, asked God for the Holy Ghost anointing to preach the Gospel of Jesus Christ with signs, wonders and miracles be done in Jesus Christ name…Why?

Acts 5:12-14 And by the hands of the apostles were many signs and wonders wrought among the people; (and they were all with one accord in Solomon’s porch. And of the rest durst no man join himself to them: but the people magnified them. And believers were the more added to the Lord, multitudes both of men and women.)

Signs; wonders and miracles are important coupled with the preaching of the gospel of Jesus Christ because the two witnesses testifies that Jesus Christ is resurrected, alive and glorified in bodily flesh forever.

Today we need everything that the first century church had then to reach the lost now. This is why the book of Acts was written, to show us today what it going to take to preach this gospel of Jesus Christ into all the world. Not just with wise words of men alone, but with power of God also. Because we’re not just building a church… We are building the kingdom of God

1 Corinthians 2: 1-3 And I, brethren, when I came to you, came not with excellency of speech or of wisdom, declaring unto you the testimony of God. For I determined not to know any thing among you, save Jesus Christ, and Him crucified. And I was with you in weakness, and in fear, and in much trembling. And my speech and my preaching was not with enticing words of man’s wisdom, but in demonstration of the Spirit and of power: That your faith should not stand in the wisdom of men, but in the power of God.

John 14:12 Verily, verily, I say unto you, he that believeth on Me, the works that I do shall he do also; and greater works than these shall he do; because I go unto My Father.

If Jesus Christ promised that all Christians can be endued with power from on High and do what He did (John 14:12), than why aren’t people receiving the baptism and power of the Holy Spirit?

Acts 4:23-33 And being let go, they went to their own company, and reported all that the chief priests and elders had said unto them. And when they heard that, they lifted up their voice to God with one accord, and said, Lord, Thou art God, which hast made heaven, and earth, and the sea, and all that in them is:

Who by the mouth of Thy servant David hast said, Why did the heathen rage, and the people imagine vain things? The kings of the earth stood up, and the rulers were gathered together against the Lord, and against His Christ. For of a truth against Thy holy child Jesus, whom Thou hast anointed, both Herod, and Pontius Pilate, with the Gentiles, and the people of Israel, were gathered together,

For to do whatsoever Thy hand and Thy counsel determined before to be done. And now, Lord, behold their threatenings: and grant unto Thy servants, that with all boldness they may speak Thy word, By stretching forth Thine hand to heal; and that signs and wonders may be done by the name of Thy holy child Jesus.

Acts 4:23-33 gives us the keys to the baptism of the Holy Spirit and of power:

  • They had a close personal relationship with Jesus Christ
  • They went to church (V:23)
  • They sought God (The Father of Jesus Christ V:24)
  • They were in one accord, one mind and one soul with Christ and with each other
  • They worshipped God
  • They lifted up their voices to God
  • They cast their cares upon the Lord (V:25-28)
  • Then they prayed/petitioned to God (V:29)

    • For boldness to preach the gospel of Jesus Christ
    • For His hands to heal and signs; wonders and miracles be done in Jesus Christ’s name
    • They received because they believed the promises of Christ (John 14:12), they were faithful to God without compromise (Acts 2:46-47), and they all were of one heart and soul with Christ (John 15:1-16), doing His work in His name

Ephesians 5:22-32 Wives, submit yourselves unto your own husbands, as unto the Lord. For the husband is the head of the wife, even as Christ is the head of the church: and He is the saviour of the body. Therefore as the church is subject unto Christ, so let the wives be to their own husbands in every thing.

Husbands, love your wives, even as Christ also loved the church, and gave Himself for it; That He might sanctify and cleanse it with the washing of water by the word, That He might present it to Himself a glorious church, not having spot, or wrinkle, or any such thing; but that it should be holy and without blemish. So ought men to love their wives as their own bodies. He that loveth his wife loveth himself.

For no man ever yet hated his own flesh; but nourisheth and cherisheth it, even as the Lord the church: For we are members of His body, of His flesh, and of His bones. For this cause shall a man leave his father and mother, and shall be joined unto his wife, and they two shall be one flesh. This is a great mystery: but I speak concerning Christ and the church.
