Christus Victor (Christ the Conqueror)

Listen Later

Episode 1: Christ the Conqueror

Series: Week 1 – Christus Victor

In this opening episode of The Encouraging Word, Pastor Eric reflects on the cross not as a mere transaction, but as a decisive victory. Drawing from Colossians 2:13–15, this devotional explores the ancient Christian understanding of Christus Victor—the belief that Jesus confronts and defeats the powers of sin, death, and evil, liberating those once held captive.

Rather than offering forgiveness alone, the gospel announces freedom. Christ does not negotiate with the forces that enslave humanity—He disarms them. The resurrection declares that fear, shame, and death no longer have the final word.

Scripture:Colossians 2:13–15

Quote Featured:Athanasius – “The Word assumed a body in order that death might be destroyed.”

Music:Bumper music: “Mercy Flows” (original composition, 2006)

Encouraging Word for Today:You are not fighting for victory—you are learning to live from one already won.
