Today for the first time ever on the podcast, Jarlath sits down with his wife, Tina, to talk about how it has felt to be in the vulnerable category throughout the pandemic and how the rush “back to normal” in the U.K. fills her and people like her with dread. In this moving conversation, Tina and Jar lay their cards on the table and open up for the first time about having to “come out” as vulnerable in March and how that took away a lot of vulnerable people’s power when trying to get on with trying to live a normal life.

With infection numbers soaring and experts warning against it, Boris Johnson seems intent on delivering this much hyped “freedom day” on July 19th. Tina explains with humour and clarity that even though she wants a return to real life more than anyone, she can’t help feeling like the world has lost its patience with those who are justifiably still scared? By advising people to get used to living with the virus, get back to normal and get on with things, those most affected by the opening up are not being heard. I’m this episode of our bonus Corona-pod series, Jarlath helps Tina tell her story and together they try to articulate why those who are in that vulnerable category need our empathy, understanding and help now more than ever.
