Some of the country's most prominent Covid-19 minds are calling on the government to radically rethink the managed isolation and quarantine setup in Auckland.

The current outbreak, which has seen Auckland locked down for five and a half weeks and counting, is believed to have leaked out of MIQ in the middle of the CBD.

Two epidemiologists say the Auckland beds need to be reserved for those arriving only from the most low risk locations.
