Craig Wilkens of Doosan Explains How Intelligent Load Management System Reduces Wet Stacking

Listen Later

Craig Wilkens, business development with Doosan Portable Power, explains wet stacking in generators, why it's a problem and how the company's Intelligent Load Management System (ILMS) can reduce the chance of wet stacking.

Purchasing or renting a generator that is larger than what a jobsite actually needs is a problem. Often, the load being powered doesn't exceed 5% to 10% of the general output of that large generator - basically the generator is idling. The goal is a 30% threshold, Wilkens says.

When the generator is running so low, the engine doesn't get up to operating temperature, exhaust components plug up with unused fuel and the generator doesn't run properly. It could even cause the generator to not meet EPA regulations.

The Doosan Intelligent Load Management System is an option designed to prevent this. The ILMS is belt driven and creates heat and load on the engine to get it over the 30% threshold, Wilkens says. According to Doosan, the ILMS creates supplemental heat within the exhaust system, which aids the regeneration process without limiting the generator capacity or causing downtime.

The system is programmed to run only when it is needed.
