During last night’s game — featuring the Buffalo Bills vs. the Cincinnati Bengals — with 5:58 remaining in the first quarter, Bills safety Damar Hamlin collapsed after standing up following a tackle by Bengals wide receiver Tee Higgins. Hamlin suffered a cardiac arrest following the hit; his heartbeat was restored on the field. This devastation was strong enough to convert the users of the most secular social media platform, Twitter, into Christians. Many users and sports commentators were quoted saying, “Praying for Damar,” and compared football players to heroes who sacrifice their lives. Unfortunately, Hamlin wasn’t the only one who was in critical condition. There were many overreactions from corporate media and sports figures — such as Domonique Foxworth, Skip Bayless, and many others — who took sensitivity too far.
