Upon hearing the prophecy that the King of the Jews had been born—Jesus the Messiah—the current King of the Jews named Herod began to seek out information as to where Jesus was. Joseph & Mary were warned to flee to Egypt, where they remained until Herod’s death. Out of fear, Herod reacted violently—and against God’s wishes—to preserve the present.
