good
I loved the whole story. However, I find the speakers rendition of the women's voices to be very whiny and snotty sounding, which takes quite a bit out of my enthusiasm for listening.
Most disturbing romance I've ever read
Couldn't finish this really screwed up "romance." Usually I like the plot line of resistance and then resignation and then love, with some serious physical chemistry along the way, but this story too easily glossed over rape, near-pedophilia, and physical abuse. I couldn't, in good conscience, finish it. The protagonist is a victim with Stockholm Syndrome; she resists the love interest for approximately a chapter before being reminded he was nice to her once a year ago, and he'd already ruined her eighteenth-century virtue, so it was fine to stop resisting and start the long, tedious, fall into weird love with a guy who professed to have developed interest in her because she looked like her mother who he had been in love with before her death. Not to mention, the love scenes aren't even that good!!!
Forgot to mention that the reader sounds like she's about 60. Her performance is fine, from a technical perspective, but I really struggled to believe it.
Stockholm syndrome
Beware. This book has several very descriptive rape scenes and is not a romantic story.
Disappointing
I am a big fan of Ms Coulters historical romances. The Devil's Embrace was a disappointing story for me. I do not like "bad guy wins" novels of any kind. Sorry, Catherine.
Sounds like Mary Poppins Reading Erotica
Sounds like Mary Poppins reading erotica. *face palm*
I love Catherine but can't enjoy the story due to the narrator sucking all sexy out of the characters.
