One of the emails I get ALL THE TIME goes a little something like this, "I really want to run (insert time or distance goal) this year but I don't think it's (insert "realistic", "doable", or "in the cards for me"). I'm only a (insert self-limiting adjectives here) and I just don't know if it's worth my time." OR this one, "I really want to break 2 hours in the half but I've tried a few times and always finished seconds short. I'm heartbroken and now I'm running so much slower than I was a few months ago. I don't know what to do." Something like that. It doesn't matter if you aren't athletic and are thinking about running your first 5K, 10K, half marathon or marathon or if you're chasing a seemingly impossible time or distance goal, NO ONE KNOWS WHAT YOU'RE CAPABLE OF. Not you. Not me.  And the way I see it, any goal is a realistic goal if you're ready to work for it. Maybe it'll take years to make happen. Maybe it'll take months. Just don't let "realistic" stop you from chasing your dream goal.
