Description:

Welcome to Surviving Medicine, the podcast that takes you into the mind of the best and brightest premedical and medical students, residents and physicians discussing where Medical Education is today and the future of healthcare tomorrow.

Before we begin, I want to take a moment to thank you, our listeners, for listening in and providing feedback. Your opinions  are invaluable to us as we are constantly trying to improve and make this a better resource for you. And with your feedback, before we jump into the episode, we hope everyone has checked out our new website and platform, our site is not only for our podcast but for all of our work including social media, blog posts, media links and so much more! It is primarily geared towards residents and medical students but it will be invaluable to everyone who is in the healthcare field. If you are a writer, poet, artist, or creative, we would love for you to take part and submit your work! This past week we had two medical hero posts with Dr. Jack O’brien and Dr. Cherilyn Cecchini and we featured two new blog posts.

Today, we could not be more excited to bring you an interview with Dr. Angel Lightner. Angel is a current OBGYN resident and a pacific northwest native, now living on the east coast. Throughout medical school, Angel learned how to balance working out, competing at fitness competitions, and finding time for school and her family. For all of the premed’s out there, Angel is living proof that you can start at a community college and still go to medical school. In this episode, we dive deep discussing why she chose OBGYN, why she thinks it is important to workout, how she balanced undergrad classes, working, and volunteering, how she avoids burnout during residency, why she values social media, and where she plans to be in the future.
