Today we tell the story of Dr. John Romulus Brinkley, from the mountains of western North Carolina. Dr. Brinkley lived a colorful life as a promoter of patent medicines, quack cures and goat "gonad" operations, among other things. Oh, he even had time to run for governor of Kansas, more than once.
He was also a master marketer, pioneering the use of what were called "border blaster" radio stations located near the U.S. border in Mexico and aimed at the American radio market to promote his practice. It was a long and interesting life and we have a long and, hopefully, interesting look at the good doctor.
