Imagine going to college, graduating in finance, working on wall street, owning your own investment banking company, just to realize you want to go into medicine… sounds like a play, doesn’t it? Well even better, today I am excited to share with you a conversation with someone who knows that story all too well, and yes, including the joke about it being a play. Dr. Michael Ehrenreich, a board-certified, solo practicing dermatologist in NJ who, lived just that, and who now is the Writer, Lyricist, and Composer of the hit Off-Broadway Musical titled “Medicine the Musical”. Before we dive in, Dr. Ehrenreich’s show opens today, for all those listening, yes, the show opens today for a limited engagement only at the HERE theatre in NYC. The show runs from November 3rd to November 18th and you can buy tickets and find a link to the show above. Now for the episode, this isn’t a sponsored episode or a podcast about musicals or the show itself, this is an episode about Dr. Michael Ehrenreich. A man who amongst all odds, started his career as a medical student at the age of 32. A man who graduated college working as an analyst on wall street learning the world of business and finance before making the leap. And it wasn’t easy. In this episode we dive deep discussing his path to medicine, why he chose dermatology, how he maintains his private practice, advice he has for medical students, and how he uses personal interaction and getting to know his patients to fuel his motivation for medicine each day.
