Description:

Women in Medicine. When I hear the phrase #womeninmedicine or #womenempowerment or #girlrising, no other physician comes to mind ahead of today’s guest. Dr. Poonam Desai, an Emergency Medicine Attending and an expert in Emergency ultrasound, an assistant professor, a talented dancer, the Director of Emergency Ultrasound and the Director of an Emergency Ultrasound Fellowship, and a Regional Ambassador for Girl Rising. Dr. Desai grew up in California, attended college and medical school in California, then moved to NYC for residency where she currently practices. Dr. Desai truly is one of the more genuine, passionate, caring, motivational, and inspired physician that I have met. Her outlook and her dedication to self-care and patient care is aspirational. You all are going to love this episode! During our conversation we dive deep discussing her path to medicine, why she chose emergency medicine, how she moved from California to NYC for residency, why she chose to do a fellowship in Emergency Ultrasound, how she balances work, family and socializing, what dancing means to her, and advice she gives medical students and residents.
