In this episode, Jason starts off by sharing an update regarding a recent setback he's been having in his battle with Lyme Disease. After that, he gets right back into what God has been teaching him about what it means to be a Godly Man!

On the last episode, Jason emphasized that God did not just save us just to give us forgiveness of sins and eternal life in Heaven. He also saved us to change us - transform us - and make us a "new creation in Christ" (AKA = A Godly Man) - See 2 Corinthians 5:17.

On this episode, we learn that we cannot sit back and wait on God to miraculously zap us into godliness. That's not going to happen. We have to TAKE ACTION and go after it. It's not easy. It's not comfortable. It's going to be a fight. There will be opposition. But it's worth it in the end. The blessings and impact are much more than we realize. 

The first action that we need to take is ...

SEEK GOD DAILY!

We humans are constantly talking to ourselves because this is how we try to make sense of the world, relationships, work, God, faith, pain, stress, etc. It’s how we try to figure out the best way to cope and navigate through life. You may not realize it, but you’ve been talking to yourself all day, but what have you been saying to yourself ... Is it true, godly, positive, and healthy? Or is it false, ungodly, negative, and unhealthy? The Bible says we "reap what we sow" ... and that "sowing" begins with our thoughts (aka = our inner self-talk). If you want a life of freedom, growth, transformation, and impact ... then you better start working on your inner self-talk.

E-252: The Importance of Your Inner Self-Talk

In 1 Timothy 4:7, God commands us to "train" ourselves for "godliness." It's something we must do to ourselves.

My brothers, becoming a godly man won’t just happen. You have to train yourself ... and training means you have to be intentional, you have to prioritize it, put forth effort, sacrifice, and remain committed … day after day … week after week … month after month … year after year ... decade after decade.

Yes, God is the One who is ultimately at work in us (Philippians 1:6). He is the One behind all of it making us more like Christ (aka = sanctification), but we have an active role to play in that process. Sanctification is a tag-team effort between us and God. If we sit back and do nothing, we will naturally drift away from godliness. 

And when you begin to attain godliness, you have to maintain it, because whatever you attain, you must maintain … or it erodes! That's true for physical fitness and spiritual fitness ... whatever you attain, you must maintain ... or it erodes.

So how do we train ourselves for godliness? 

What does that realistically look like in the everyday grind of life? ... 

What training methods do we use? ... 

That's what I'm going to show you on this episode of THE GRIZ PODCAST.

On this episode, we wrap up our series from J.C. Ryle's outstanding book, "Thoughts for Young Men." Specifically, we'll be looking at Part 4 of the book where he gives what he calls, "Special Rules for Young Men" .... and he gives 5 of them. 

By God's help he tells young men to do the following ...

1. Break off every known sin.

2. Shun everything which may be an opportunity to sin.

3. Resolve to never forget the all-seeing eye of God.

4. Be diligent in the practice of your Christianity.

5. Resolve that wherever you are, you will pray.

As I've said before my brothers, these words from J.C. Ryle are gold, precious stones that will keep you from many painful consequences and open up a world of blessings upon your life, marriage, family, friendships, career, ministry, etc. 

Do not blow off what you hear from Pastor J.C. Ryle.
