E10: 4 Stories by the Bus Station: Tyrone, Christine, Beto, & Maëli

Listen Later

Today's episode is a snapshot of my morning by the downtown bus station and 4 people I encountered there. Tyrone was setting up his hot dog stand and greeting customers as he organized supplies and fired the grill. Across the street, Christine, who owns the new bookstore Read With Me, was putting out her sandwhich board of upcoming events and is particularly concerned about the care of her homeless neighbors. Down in Moore Square, Beto, a homeless man, told me a little about his journey from Nigeria to Raleigh. Maëli, 10, was attending a book club meeeting at Read With Me with her classmates and happens to be writing a book of her own. Young, old, rich, poor, black, white, international, single, married, local, male, female- all converge on the same block of Hargett Street last Friday.
