*Episode 3 - This Means War*

The Dutch West India Company, founded in 1621, had a lot on its plate. Their territory ranged from West-Africa to South America, the Caribbean plus a lone colony, New Netherland in North America.

That north American colony was a money pit, and the wars fought to gain the southern territories for the sugar and salt trade were very expensive. Also, no one wanted to move to any of the colonies because of the company's trade and shipping monopoly.

In the early 1640s, this monopoly was given up for both South- and North America, and just like that… everything changed.

And no one was prepared.
