In the heat of the Central California sun an immigrant from Sicily purchased 80 acres of land to start what he thought would be his citrus empire.  After some digging and testing he found that land was rather unusable for what he was wanting to accomplish due to the hardpan soil that was present.  Being fascinated with the underground since learning about the Roman catacombs in his youth, Baldassare Forestiere came up with an idea to beat the heat and make some use out of this land:  he would build an underground house and gardens.
