Today, RÚV English is joined by aviation expert Andrei Menshenin to calms fears of flight disruption!
The eruption at Litli-Hrútur is very different from the famous Eyjafjallajökull event of 2010, which closed airspace above Europe for weeks. That's because this time we are seeing a fissure eruption: the magma is not forcing its way through water or a glacier, so no ash is thrown up into the atmosphere.
Aviation journalist Andrei Menshenin is here with Darren to put your mind at ease about the impact - or lack thereof - that this eruption will have on flights.
The conversation was recorded just moments before police closed the hiking route to the eruption site.
