What have you heard from the guys on Line Drive Radio all year? Embrace the chaos! And in this week’s

episode, the guys jump into the choppy waters of the current playoff races and try to swim through the

craziness.

In the American League, the Yankees, Red Sox and A’s are virtually tied for the top wild card spot. The

Yankees got Gerrit Cole back from the COVID list; the Red Sox added Chris Sale to their rotation. Both

came back with a strong showing. Unfortunately, Oakland lost Chris Bassitt for the foreseeable future

the scary scene in Chicago on Tuesday night. The initial news has been as good as could be hoped after

Bassitt was hit in the face by a line drive against the White Sox.

In the National League, the Braves have sprinted into first in the East thanks to incredible months from

Austin Riley, Freddie Freeman and Dansby Swanson. The Padres, on the other hand, have fallen back to

the pack and allowed the Reds and Cardinals to have hopes of a playoff berth. Joey Votto’s incredible

play – and reaching his 2,000 th career hit – have helped lead the Reds back into the wild card

conversation. But the Padres’ pitching has been the core problem during their recent 1-6 stretch against

teams they should beat.
