Harnessing the best of disparate worlds, this meticulously blended beer creates a haven of flavour between an old world, foeder aged Belgian-style Single, and a bright tartness that brings it to life.

Foeder-Aged for 5 months, we blended our inaugural foeder release with a barrel aged sour to produce a delicate dance of nuanced flavour: the genesis of our foeder ageing program has begun!

Crooked Stave - Origins

Burgundy Sour Ale Aged in Oak Barrels

Origins is our homage to the history of barrel aging and those who have influenced us along the way. Traditionally regarded as the most complex of beers, Flemish Reds and Oud Bruins from the Flanders region of Belgium were known for their tart and vinous characteristics; these attributes eventually gave rise to their designation as the “Burgundies of Belgium.” Before we carefully select each blend from our barrel cellar, our burgundy sour gracefully ages in large oak foeders, and finally, smaller wine casks. Origins’ dominant characteristics come from the use of aromatic malts to create dark vinous notes with an acidic tart cherry finish, derived from our mixed culture of wild yeast and bacteria.
