Episode 44: Christopher Kelly talks about health and laboratory testing

This week Debbie talks to Christopher Kelly of Nourish, Balance, Thrive. Chris was born in England, but has been living in California since 2003. He is an avid cyclist, and he and Debbie talk about the challenges of cycling in his neck of the woods.

In his work at NBT and from his own health challenges, Daniel understands both the importance of diet and of laboratory testing. This will allow an individual to know what is actually going on in their body, and give them a means to overcome it, hopefully without resorting to prescription medication to do so.

The medical profession generally has about fifteen minutes to solve problems with the body. As a result, they may only have the time to see that an athlete is in relatively fantastic shape, and they may immediately turn to the prescription pad since they don’t have the time to dig into your specific issues. As a result, standard treatment for some issues may not be appropriate. As Chris makes clear, this may be simply because doctors don’t have time.

Chris and Debbie also talk a little about “adrenal fatigue.” Chris questions whether it even really should be called “fatigue,” since the problem isn’t that the gland is worn out, but rather that it isn’t functioning properly.

He also brings up that his background as a computer programmer has helped him with his work with Nourish, Balance, Thrive. The practice of examining a piece of computer code to establish what is going wrong with it is an established practice, and he found that being able to work the same way with nutrition and lab testing has been a useful way to proceed.
