Forgiveness is among the most difficult acts in humanity. Forgive, or the action "for-giving" is something precious we give to ourselves. Why does it take so long to forgive deeply damaging acts against us? For the simple fact that the reason behind the “deeply damaging” invokes our own vast past of regressions, and dysfunctional ancestral memories that tend to huddle with the angst of the present. What a clump of gooey, guck, misery it can all become, coalesced as it were by the glue of despair.
Most people think that because we live spiritual lives we seldom make mistakes. This is not so. I don't know that we could live for even a day without making mistakes. We can ask forgiveness of those whom we have hurt. But in the last instance we must sum up the courage to forgive ourselves. Because we are accountable for our journey along the path only through forgiving ourselves - regardless of who is doing what to whom- can we realize the reality of love and infinite harmony. This power does not change the past, or those whom transgress against us, but it releases toxicity from the heart and paves the way for awareness to light the way.
