ESKOM – THE WAY FORWARD

In his state of the nation address (Sona) last week, President Cyril Ramaphosa announced Eskom will be remodelled and split into three state-owned entities dealing with generation, transmission and distribution. Recently, the President expressed his anger at the situation at Eskom had reached a stage of dysfunctionality. Many people are divided on Eskom, and how the country should move forward, where it’s concerned. This morning we get two views, Political Analyst Ralph Mathekga says Eskom a horse for which South Africa keeps on insisting it needs a new engine to pull an advanced carriage and that& that should have been privatized back under the apartheid system, while Catrina Godinho, Research Associate, University Of Cape Town believed the unbundling will have far reaching consequences for South Africa’s energy sector.
