According to World Health Organizations (WHO), more than 700 000 people’s death were caused by suicide every year. Not just that, for every suicide, there are many more who attempted to take their own lives. It is a tragedy that has affected so many families and communities that were left behind. However, research found that it is preventable as people with suicidal behaviour display certain signs and symptoms which we should take note of to intervene before the attempt.
Suicide is a condition that often times less favourably to be a topic to talk with your family or friends. Although having suicidal thought is common, there is also various myths surrounded it which creates a stereotype or maybe fear towards people affected by this condition. In conjunction with World Suicide Prevention Week, we will have a series of interviews where we invite mental health professionals to further discuss and share their insights on suicide.
In continuing the International Women’s Day celebration with the aim to bring more representation of women in leadership, we had the opportunity to meet and speak to various inspiring women representing different fields in our community.
