The Psychology of Why We Love Sports (0:06:56)
According to a study by Hollywood Reporter, people watched over one trillion minutes of sports programs in 2018. Between rivalries, underdogs, and teeth-clenching buzzer-beaters, sports have a way of grabbing our attention that other programs can’t quite match. But what is it that makes watching sports so addicting? Today, we’re joined by Dr. Matt Johnson, a psychologist and consumer behavior expert. He’s here with us to get a deeper look into why we can’t keep our eyes off the ball, both on and off the court.
Kids and Financial Literacy (0:25:40)
Have you ever wished that you learned more about finances in high school? That real-life, practical information is so helpful, but many kids don’t have the opportunity to be taught about managing debt, their credit score, insurance, and more. Thankfully, one organization is working to change that by providing service opportunities to teach students about financial literacy. Christy Tribe is the CEO of Junior Achievement of Utah –an organization that provides this opportunity to people. We loved this idea so much and wanted to hear more about it, so we invited her onto the show to give us all the details.
When Old Emotions Won’t Go Away (0:39:53)
Maybe you missed an opportunity in your early career and have regretted it ever since. Or perhaps you were hurt in an early relationship and it has since affected your ability to trust. Old, unwanted emotions look different for everybody, but we all experience them to a certain extent. The question is “am I retaining old emotions?” but rather “what old emotions am I retaining?” Here to discuss how old emotions manifest, why they stay with us, and how to process and deal with them is psychotherapist and author of “Constructive Wallowing” Tina Gilbertson.
Prepping Your Car for Roadtrips (1:10:47)
While prepping for the road with snacks and entertainment is important, making sure our cars are suitable for the trek is absolutely essential. This is especially important now as we approach the holidays and people look to celebrate with family in other areas of the country. Many people are opting to drive to their relatives rather than fly due to the pandemic. So, we need to know how to prep our cars for our next road trip. Like, how do you do a proper tire and oil check? Here to answer our many questions is the executive editor of U.S News Best Cars, Jamie Page Deaton.
Changing the World by Changing Yourself (1:28:22)
Now, changing the world is a daunting feat. But little do we realize, even our smallest efforts to help others have a big impact.  So today, we wanted to focus on ways we can change the world by serving the world around us. Here to help us know how we can do that is the first Executive Director of Rising Star Outreach and current CEO of Humanitarian Experience for Youth, Amy Antonelli.
