On today’s episode – a bit of politics, a tinge of history, a dab of fiction, and a whole lot of love. We’re in conversation with actor, producer, and bestselling author James Brandon about his new book The Edge of Being – a story about being young, queer, and searching for the role of fathers and identity. The book is a tender and heartfelt queer young adult novel about the multiplicities of grief, deeply held family secrets, and finding new love – within the political context of San Francisco’s Compton’s Cafeteria Riots, a queer rebellious event that occurred on the West Coast prior to New York’s Stonewall rebellions.
Brandon also produced and played the central role in the internationally acclaimed tour of Terrence McNally’s Corpus Cristi for over a decade. He is co-director of the documentary film based on that journey. He is the co-founder the I AM Love Campaign and currently serves on the Board for Bay Area American Indian Two-Spirits (BAAITS) in San Francisco.
