Alabama’s new law essentially banning all abortions, with no exceptions for rape or incest, is designed to force the issue to the Supreme Court.  Mary Ziegler of the Florida State University of Law explains that it’s a major step on the way for the Court to overturn the Roe v. Wade decision which legalized abortion in 1973. Nathan Gonzales of Inside Elections dissects the battle for the Senate in 2020 when 22 of the 34 seats at stake are currently held by Republicans.  Democrats, who trail 53-47 in the Senate, are further hampered by the fact that several of the top people on their wish list are not running. What happens when you have 22 presidential candidates and only a maximum of 20 can participate in next month’s Democratic debate?  Maggie Astor of the New York Times sets out the criteria for the candidates and which ones have made the cut thus far. And we remember the Supreme Court decision of 1954 — 65 years ago this week — that outlawed school segregation in the famed Brown v. Board of Education case.  Rogers Smith of the University of Pennsylvania talks about the case’s legacy.
