Of course I've made mistakes-but the thing all of us as music teachers can do is to pivot and make changes that address the needs of our students. 
 
In this blog post, I'm sharing some upper elementary activities for the First Day of music class. I also give some insight into how to structure your class activities and to focus on what's really important. 
That means student relationship driven activities. 
 
Honestly-your decor may be lacking, but if the kids LOVE your class and you-then you are going to have an easier time with classroom management issues.
