Folks Like Us - The Value of Equipping The Saints
Ephesians 4:11-13 So Christ himself gave the apostles, the prophets, the evangelists, the pastors and teachers, to equip his people for works of service, so that the body of Christ may be built up until we all reach unity in the faith and in the knowledge of the Son of God and become mature, attaining to the whole measure of the fullness of Christ.
We are continuing in our series, Folks Like Us, by looking at the value of Equipping the Saints!
In Ephesians, Paul is dealing with another problem in the church. To be fair, most of Paul's letters to the church were dealing with problems, but in Ephesus, there seems to be a divide in the body, and unity is a huge theme throughout this book. By the time we arrive in chapter 4, we come to this very famous verse about the five-fold ministry.
In the Vineyard, we love to say, "Everyone gets to play," and what this really means is that everyone who's a follower of Christ is on mission with Christ to a hurting and broken world rather. Jesus never came to create spectators; he was always trying to activate and empower his disciples to do Kingdom works.
One of the ways that Jesus activates and empowers his disciples is through women and men who are evangelistic, pastoral, apostolic, prophetic, and teaching. All of these gifts were given (and are given!) to the church to equip the saints for the works of ministry.
In Christ, we are all empowered by the Spirit to live lives worthy of the Gospel, and God has equipped the saints with both his Spirit and his people to be all that God has designed us to be.
