Folks Like Us - The Values of the Vineyard
Proverbs 3:5-6 Trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding; in all your ways submit to him, and he will make your paths straight.
We are finishing up our series, Folks Like Us, by doing a series recap! Over the last few months, we've highlighted ten different values of the Vineyard and why we have to continue making them a priority.
These values are the foundation of everything that we do, and we want to make sure that we only do what we see the Father doing in our midst. From the value of Scripture to the value of the Holy Spirit, these 10 values inform our mission and purpose in this great city!
In 2008, the Vineyard Board, along with then National Director Bert Waggoner, engaged this question of "who are we" by developing a set of core values: central priorities of our movement that might be expressed in different ways but would always be part of what it means to be Vineyard.
The values were introduced by the phrase, “We are a people of the kingdom of God who...” This introduction is no mere window dressing. It emphasizes both the ordinariness and the extraordinariness of what God has called us to. We are a people first. Not an institution, not a government, not a force, but simply a people. And we are a people of the “Kingdom of God” – our central theological lens through which we understand the teaching of Jesus (Mk. 1:14-15). We are a people seized by something beyond ourselves and turned into something new, something that is transformative to the world around us. Our values draw this reality out.
The Franklin Vineyard Church is a casual, charismatic, community-focused, and grace-centered group of people located just south of Nashville. Our mission is to continue the works of Jesus in raising, equipping, and empowering the most effective ministers in the Kingdom of God.
