Why do I keep falling?
Falling into sin
Falling in love with things that are not God
Falling short of the glory of God
When instead I should be
Falling on my knees in adoration of Him who is Holy Holy Holy
Falling on my knees to confess and turn from my sinful desires
Falling on my knees humbly before the King of the heavens and earth
Main passages: Matthew 18:21-35, Psalm 103:8-12, and Colossians 3:13.
1. We need forgiveness
- Forgiveness from sin is the only way to salvation.
- Sometimes we think our sin is small and doesn’t matter. It does. That’s what separates us from God.
- “For whoever keeps the whole law and yet stumbles at just one point is guilty of breaking all of it.” James 2:10 NIV
- Without the shedding of blood, there is no forgiveness.
- We cannot earn it on our own. We cannot be good enough or cancel out bad with good actions.
- Our righteous acts are like filthy rags
- God won’t just “let us into heaven.” He is good which means He is just. He does not let the wicked go unpunished.
- Sometimes we think God is too small and our sin is too big.
- But we see Bible characters that God forgave: Paul was literally killing Christians and David committed adultery and murder.
- God is way bigger than us and our sin.
- He doesn’t just hold us down and beat us up. He offers a way out, forgiveness.
- If we confess our sins, He is faithful and just to forgive us and purify us from all unrighteousness. As far as the east is from the west is how far He separates us from our sin.
- No longer does our sin separate us from God, but God separates us from our sin
2. We must forgive others
- God does not have to forgive us as if He owes us. He is perfect and powerful. We are flawed and weak.
- Fellow humans are also flawed and weak. We are not better than or worse than anyone. Sin is sin. One sin is enough to not make it to heaven, to miss the mark and fall short of God’s glory. Romans 3:23.
- A person who has messed up the law once is guilty of committing all of it.
- So why do we think we are higher than others?
- Stop holding them down and beating them up in your heart to pay this debt they owe you
- You are not perfect
- Only our Father is perfect and He forgives
- Let them free from the debt in your heart and mind
- Rely on Gods strength to forgive. He did nothing wrong and is perfect and we owe Him the biggest debt. He forgave us
3. Rest in His forgiveness
- Stop trying to earn it and be good enough
- Stop seeking satisfaction elsewhere
- HIS FORGIVENESS IS SUFFICIENT
- All else does not matter because this life will pass away
- If you are forgiven, you have eternity with our Father
- Forgiveness helps us have relationship with God and others
- He is so gracious to not only forgive, but also add us to His family
- Made us heirs of God and co-heirs with Christ
- If God gave His Son, why would He not also graciously give us all things?
