This episode with Gretchen and Slade’s friend, Steve Cederquist author of Get Out Alive: Surviving and Thriving After Drugs, Guns, Gangs, Dysfunction, and Crazy, proves anyone can transform their life just as the “Flip or Flop” star contractor did. The subject is serious – cocaine addiction – but there is a happy ending. Steve got off the drugs and he says you too can overcome addiction. The cute bald contractor on three seasons of “Flip or Flop,” he writes with humor and humility about first trying cocaine at a party then going through years of hell. He dropped out of college, got involved with a gang of drug dealers, arrested numerous times, ending up losing his house and his marriage. It ended in a seedy motel room with guns drawn in a standoff with the cops.

His turning point was glimpsing his son in the schoolyard through the window of the jail bus as he was taken to court. At that moment he realized what he was losing. Steve had to serve two years but he got clean and sober and came out a changed man. He went to work as a contractor in Southern California and talked his way into a three-season gig with HDTV’s “Flip or Flop.” He eventually left the television show because he got too busy with his company, Steve Cederquist Designs. This is an episode that will give the listener an understanding of how a college kid drops out to become a drug addict and then finds redemption.  Steve did “get out alive.”
