it’s time for another four wines. Every couple of months we dedicate an episode to talk about four wines that we’ve really enjoyed recently that don’t fit in our upcoming episodes.   In this episode, we highlighted a couple of listeners as a way of saying thanks for all the support.  Follow wine4fridays and uncoakingenglish on Instagram. They are awesome!   Wine Recommendations Marques de Gelida Brut Gran Reserva Cava 2009 - priced around $20. Nose: toast, marigold flowers, pear and apple It’s dry with medium plus acidity with similar flavors as aromas - pear, apple, toast and marigolds. It’s fruity and floral and there is a hint of funk that adds to the charm of this wine This wine is smooth with no hint of bitterness. It’s a great value, definitely worth more than the $20 price tag The 2009 isn’t available but you can currently pick the 2012 up and drink it now or age up to 2020. You can purchase this wine on Wine.com   Laurent Cognard Les Bassets Montagny Premier Cru 2014 - priced around $38. This is a white Burgundy so this is made with Chardonnay Nose: vanilla, toasted bread and a hint of white flowers It’s dry with medium acidity, and medium body with flavors of vanilla, nectarine and lemon curd It’s got great balance of acid and fruit There is definitely oak used in making this wine but it’s not over the top. This is a great bridge between stainless steel Chardonnay and those big full bodied oaked Chardonnays from parts of California Food Pairings: white fish and shellfish, cream-based sauces. grilled fish, starches, butter, and toasted nuts You can purchase this wine from Wine.com   Pannonica Rose 2017 - priced around $14.  This rose is a blend of Blaufränkisch, Pinot Noir, St. Laurent grapes all harvested by hand It’s a pale orange/pink color Light nose of raspberries, pear, lychee and minerality It’s dry with medium acidity and light body with flavors of strawberries and grapefruit It’s very fresh tasting, great for warm weather, delicious This blend of grapes are unique together so if you love Rose but you are looking for something a little different this is a great option. Food pairings: pasta, fish and chicken Priced around $14 You can buy this wine on Vivino.com   Hunky Dory Pinot Noir 2016 - priced around $17.  More intense in color than most PN we’ve seen with a medium intense ruby hue Nose: cherries, raspberries, black olive and mushrooms It’s dry with medium acidity and light tannins with flavors that match the aromas - cherries, mushrooms and black olives This wine tasted very fruity and soft - at first sip we thought it might be a little sweet but it still has the earthiness we come to expect from PN If you are looking for something affordable that is a good showing of the typical NZ PN style this would be a great option Food Pairings: lamb, beef, duck confit and anything to do with porcini mushrooms You can purchase this wine on Wine.com
