Publisher's Summary:
There can be no light without darkness, no hope without despair, no love without heartache
Some scars can't be seen
When the handsome Frederick Mackintosh offers to marry Aggie McLaren, she is certain 'tis greed or insanity that motivates him. Besides land and a chance at a chiefdom, she believes she has nothing to offer. She soon learns nothing could be further from the truth. Hope she thought long lost blooms with her husband's kindness, his honor, and his fierce determination to make their marriage and their clan a success.
Sometimes perfection is imperfect
Aggie McLaren is not Frederick Mackintosh's image of the perfect wife. She isn't well read, vivacious, or voluptuous. Wee, timid, and unable to speak, it is a glimpse of her smile and the chance to be chief of his own clan that propels him to offer for her hand. Frederick will do whatever he must in order to see her smile again and to help her find her voice.

Wonderful!
Aggie's father, who was a mean and vulgar man, set out to find her a husband. He was not going to live long because he had a lung disease. Her father was Chief of the clan and he did not think she could fill that duty. Aggie had been beaten by him many times. She had learned to keep her mouth shut and not speak or she would get another thrashing. Frederick had gone to the Kirk to ask God to give him a wife. He had watched Rowan with his wife and decided that is what he needed. When Aggie and her father arrived at Rowan's Keep, Frederick saw her father hit her and treat her mean. His heartstrings pulled at the sight of the lass.
This book came alive with the great talent of Brad Wills as narrator and the great storytelling of Suzan Tisdale. It will pull every emotion out of you. Laughter, anger, tears and you will tense with muscles pulled tight.
So Emotional!!
If you could sum up Frederick's Queen in three words, what would they be?
Heartbreaking, powerful, stunning.
Who was your favorite character and why?
Aggie was my favorite character. She was incredibly strong, somewhat naive but quite persistent. Few would live through all she'd encountered, yet she never gave up.
What does Brad Wills bring to the story that you wouldnt experience if you just read the book?
The book was terrific on its own, and I really liked the story when I read it but Brad Wills' narration just added so much depth and emotion to it that it almost became a whole different story to me. He is my favorite narrator by far, and I thought I knew what to expect from him in this story, but even still I was quite surprised. He put so much more emotion in this book than others he's narrated. There were times I just had to stop listening for a bit and think about it. I thought I'd already heard the full range of his talent, but I was wrong!!
Did you have an extreme reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?
I did!! There were times where I laughed out loud, particularly when Aggie told Frederick just what she'd do to him if he walked out the door instead of staying to talk to her!!! There were more times, however, where I felt myself emotionally curling up like a leaf. Parts of the story were just so hard to hear, Those parts were quite necessary to the story, but I have to say this is one book that will not leave the listener unaffected.
