4262 Living With a Pathologically Disobedient Kid

"This is a journey no family would choose, and the outcome is unclear even under the best of circumstances. Here is one boy’s story. Before Oscar* got kicked out of his first preschool, he was upset about lunch. Not long into the school year, the 4-year-old expressed his displeasure with the midday meal by dousing his tray with milk. When his teacher brought him to the director's office to be disciplined, Oscar was unrepentant. He reached his tiny arm across the director's desk and swiped its contents onto the floor. It was already clear to his mother, Sarah, that something was off. Oscar's tantrums were nuclear; his disobedience was beyond correction. And he was so impulsive that when someone else's child climbed into a gorilla cage at the Cincinnati Zoo, Sarah was seized by terror—and sympathy. Given the number of times Oscar had broken free from her at the zoo and run off in search of adventure, it was sheer luck that he hadn't ever landed in a cage himself. Now 14, Oscar has been diagnosed with oppositional defiant disorder (ODD) and severe attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD). He still throws tantrums when he doesn't like what's on the lunch menu. But when he runs off now, he sometimes comes home in a police car. His behavior is more self-destructive than criminal, but it tends to attract attention.Once, when Sarah took her kids—Oscar and his older brother plus their two younger sisters—grocery shopping, Oscar decided he'd had enough before Sarah had gotten through her list. She urged him to be patient. Instead, he ran to a nearby dollar store, where he raged to a clerk that he was going to kill himself by drinking bleach. The clerk called the police, and Oscar ended up in a children's hospital, where he was involuntarily committed as a suicide risk. Kids like Oscar are regulars in hospital mental-health wings. They're also overrepresented in after-school detention halls and juvenile justice centers—and, when they grow up, in jails and prisons. We see them on the news when they do something dramatically reckless, like climbing into a gorilla's cage—or when they commit an act of violence. The recent wave of school shootings has brought aggressive, impulsive young offenders to the forefront of public consciousness. So how do we keep explosive kids from becoming destructive, dangerous teens and adults? Armchair parenting experts tend to promote harsh punishment, arguing that even the most challenging kids will straighten up if given significant consequences for their actions: a good long grounding, say, or a strategic spanking. Many of us shake our heads at the overly indulgent parents who, we believe, allow their kids' behavior to escalate unchecked. But research reveals that, contrary to conventional wisdom, harsh discipline backfires when it comes to pathologically disobedient kids. The best way to keep them from ending up on the nightly news is, instead, a skill-building, problem-solving approach grounded in compassion.Experts in the so-called disruptive behavior disorders—which include ODD and conduct disorder, and which often accompany ADHD—say that instead of doling out punishment, we need to help these kids develop the coping skills and impulse control that aren't innate to them."It's only counterintuitive if you haven't been paying attention to the research that's accumulated over the last 40 to 50 years," says child psychologist Ross Greene, who founded the nonprofit Lives in the Balance, which advocates for changing the way we treat behaviorally challenging kids. "And that research is pretty compelling."https://www.psychologytoday.com/us/articles/201809/living-pathologically-disobedient-kid▶️ Donate Now: http://www.freedomainradio.com/donate▶️ Sign Up For Our Newsletter: http://www.fdrurl.com/newsletterYour support is essential to Freedomain Radio, which is 100% funded by viewers like you. 4261 Half Drunk, Oops Baby, Life Over? Freedomain Call In

Hi Stefan, I think I've got a pretty good one for you. First, I want to thank you for your work which helped me a lot with my struggles. My name is [x]. I'm 25 years old Civil Engineer and I'm a Brazilian. I've always been suffering from anger issues with my ex, whom I have a 2 years old son with. Since the beginning of our turbulent relationship, I've been extremely angry towards her. I've never been angry with my other exes, only with her. My anger starts with any move by her. Now we are having problems with our son, who is having aggressive issues in school. This makes me very angry, because I know this problem has something to do with our break up, and him being raised with separate parents. I would like to know where is this coming from and if this is normal. I think this subject will be interesting for the show, because this history involves an accidental pregnancy, depression, suicide attempt by my part, her struggling after the pregnancy, masculine behavior and a panoramical view of feminism in "third world" countries. I think a lot of people could benefit from that.▶️ Donate Now: http://www.freedomainradio.com/donate▶️ Sign Up For Our Newsletter: http://www.fdrurl.com/newsletterYour support is essential to Freedomain Radio, which is 100% funded by viewers like you. 4257 Laura Loomer Protests Twitter!

"Far-right activist Laura Loomer handcuffed herself to Twitter's New York City headquarters for about two hours on Thursday afternoon to protest the company's banning her from the social media platform, then asked police to remove her.Loomer attached herself to the building's front door, blocking the entrance to the building in Manhattan's Chelsea neighborhood in a protest that was livestreamed on Periscope, which began at about 3:45 p.m. ET.The video stream showed Loomer wearing on her chest a yellow Star of David such as many European Jews were forced to wear during the Holocaust, and a sweatshirt that read on the back, "#STOPTHEBIAS."Twitter closed the conservative firebrand's account a week ago after she posted a tweet criticizing Minnesota Rep.-elect Ilhan Omar, a Democrat, and her Muslim faith, calling Omar "anti Jewish" and pro-Sharia law.At one point Thursday, Loomer yelled through the doors of Twitter's building, telling its employees that they worked for an "evil" company. She also yelled to a group of people who stood across the street, "They don't want you guys to know the truth.""I am not going to stand by as people like Jack Dorsey and Mark Zuckerberg [try to] silence the voices of millions of conservatives," Loomer said. She asserted that Twitter CEO Jack Dorsey banned her as a "Jewish conservative journalist," a phrase she yelled repeatedly while chained to the building.Twitter released a statement during her protest, saying, "We have notified the relevant authorities who are responding. The account holder was suspended for violating our policies. We apply the Twitter Rules impartially and not based on ideology..."https://www.nbcnews.com/news/us-news/far-right-activist-laura-loomer-handcuffs-herself-twitter-s-new-n941891▶️ Donate Now: http://www.freedomainradio.com/donate▶️ Sign Up For Our Newsletter: http://www.fdrurl.com/newsletterYour support is essential to Freedomain Radio, which is 100% funded by viewers like you. 4255 The Curse of Freedom! Freedomain Call In

Hey Stefan! I wanted to come out of my shell and talk to you about answers I desperately need your help with. In life I'd describe myself as being a very kind-hearted person, but ultimately hollow and very negative. I tend to brood in my own head, creating a world where I inevitably freeze people out of it. I don't want to go outside because of the potential shame, risk and mess of what I bring and who I am. I don't have much discipline and haven't delved within to truly understand and respect myself. Throughout life I always started things but don't properly end it. I haven't really jumped on anything (partially out of my broad range of interests, my ineptitude, and my fear of the unknown), and this has led to me becoming a forgettable person with none of the impact I want to have in the world. Philosophical Question: How can I grow into the ideal state of totality in myself so that I can be the person that my family, my society and I need?▶️ Donate Now: http://www.freedomainradio.com/donate▶️ Sign Up For Our Newsletter: http://www.fdrurl.com/newsletterYour support is essential to Freedomain Radio, which is 100% funded by viewers like you. 4254 "Art of the Narrative: How viral photos of suffering kids shape (& silence) immigration debate" - Article Review

"You’ve seen it by now: Two women and two little children, barefoot and in diapers, fleeing teargas on the US-Mexico border. The powerful image has gone viral, and it’s not the first time. But to what end?Taken on Sunday by Reuters photographer Kim Kyung-Hoon, the photo soon appeared on the front pages and splashed across the screens of every single US mainstream media outlet. It quickly spread via social media, eclipsing every other image from the incident - in which a group of migrants from the Central American “caravans” tried to storm the US border as San Ysidro.Trump tear gasses children!” howled the US president’s critics, using the photo as a bludgeon against the current administration’s border enforcement and immigration policies.“These children are barefoot. In diapers. Choking on tear gas,” tweeted California’s governor-elect Gavin Newsom, a Democrat. “That’s not my America. We’re a land of refuge. Of hope. Of freedom. And we will not stand for this.”The Washington Post used Newsom’s words as a headline, solidifying the paper’s ongoing narrative that the “caravans” departing from El Salvador and Honduras, headed to the US border through Guatemala and Mexico, were peaceful crowds of asylum-seekers, mostly women and children, driven by fear of violence and political persecution.https://www.rt.com/op-ed/444932-migrants-teargas-children-photo/▶️ Donate Now: http://www.freedomainradio.com/donate▶️ Sign Up For Our Newsletter: http://www.fdrurl.com/newsletterYour support is essential to Freedomain Radio, which is 100% funded by viewers like you. 4253 Trump threatens border shutdown if Mexico doesn't remove migrants - Article Review

President Donald Trump on Monday demanded that Mexico deport the caravans of asylum-seeking migrants pressing up against the U.S. border “anyway you want,” threatening to close off the U.S. border “permanently if need be.”“Mexico should move the flag waving Migrants, many of whom are stone cold criminals, back to their countries. Do it by plane, do it by bus, do it anyway you want, but they are NOT coming into the U.S.A.,” Trump tweeted, offering no evidence to support his claim that the migrants are criminals.Chaos broke out at the U.S.-Mexico border near Tijuana, Mexico, over the weekend as U.S. authorities deployed tear gas on migrants who had rushed the border. The San Ysidro port of entry, one of the busiest crossings into the U.S., was completely shut down on Sunday morning before reopening Sunday night...https://www.politico.com/story/2018/11/26/trump-border-close-mexico-caravan-1014701▶️ Donate Now: http://www.freedomainradio.com/donate▶️ Sign Up For Our Newsletter: http://www.fdrurl.com/newsletterYour support is essential to Freedomain Radio, which is 100% funded by viewers like you. 4249 The Three Absolute Worst Words a Man Can Hear - Call In

"I have watched your content on YouTube pretty intensely from time to time, it have helped me in some way so answer those internal questions that pop up in your head now and then."Unfortunately it’s seems literally impossible for me to manage to straighten up my relationship with the woman that in my eyes, are “the one and only”. Our relationship began three years ago with a pretty rough start, which made an impact on the doubtless trust I felt for her, that was a big part in what made my feeling grow so strongly in the first place. The following three years has been rather unstable, plans of engagement one day and breakups the day after, a continuous cycle of makeups and breakups, which are equally heartbreaking every time, and for each time makes the belief of a secure and loving relationship more and more out of reach."So I would wholeheartedly appreciate some guidance to how I can repair the damage that’s been done and spend my life in harmony with the love of my life..."▶️ Donate Now: http://www.freedomainradio.com/donate▶️ Sign Up For Our Newsletter: http://www.fdrurl.com/newsletterYour support is essential to Freedomain Radio, which is 100% funded by viewers like you. 4247 The Terrible Truth About the UN Migration Compact

In December 2018, world leaders gather to sign the UN Global Compact for Safe, Orderly and Regular Migration - a disaster for Western countries which virtually eliminates property rights and free speech, enshrining the right for everyone to enter Western countries and live off the taxpayer.Global CompactThe Global Compact for Migration is the first-ever UN global agreement on a common approach to international migration in all its dimensions. The global compact is non-legally binding. It is grounded in values of state sovereignty, responsibility-sharing, non-discrimination, and human rights, and recognizes that a cooperative approach is needed to optimize the overall benefits of migration, while addressing its risks and challenges for individuals and communities in countries of origin, transit and destination. The global compact comprises 23 objectives for better managing migration at local, national, regional and global levels. The compact:aims to mitigate the adverse drivers and structural factors that hinder people from building and maintaining sustainable livelihoods in their countries of origin;intends to reduce the risks and vulnerabilities migrants face at different stages of migration by respecting, protecting and fulfilling their human rights and providing them with care and assistance;seeks to address the legitimate concerns of states and communities, while recognizing that societies are undergoing demographic, economic, social and environmental changes at different scales that may have implications for and result from migration;strives to create conducive conditions that enable all migrants to enrich our societies through their human, economic and social capacities, and thus facilitate their contributions to sustainable development at the local, national, regional and global levels...▶️ Donate Now: http://www.freedomainradio.com/donate▶️ Sign Up For Our Newsletter: http://www.fdrurl.com/newsletterYour support is essential to Freedomain Radio, which is 100% funded by viewers like you. 4245 The Brave Confessions of an Ex-Feminist! - Freedomain Radio Call In

"Hello Stefan, I’m almost 21 years old, and I love your show. I have a very very complicated past and I have a large amount of trouble processing the guilt, shame, anger, and resentment left over from that past. The issues span from my parents, friends, relationships, and self image. I was involved in feminism and leftism from a very early age, that I feel contributed to the danger I found myself in at age 18, heavy drinking, promiscuity, sexual assault, abuse, eating disorders, etc. After having a huge shift in thinking that was beaten down by my loved ones, and turning heavily to philosophy, conservativism, and responsibility, it brought up some massive questions for me. I think it may be very important to speak to you, in order to process this. How do I move forward on my own, and manage to find a healthy arrangement for myself, when I’m haunted by the shame and anger of who I was, and what I was?"▶️ Donate Now: http://www.freedomainradio.com/donate▶️ Sign Up For Our Newsletter: http://www.fdrurl.com/newsletterYour support is essential to Freedomain Radio, which is 100% funded by viewers like you. 4236 The Terrible Truth About Birthright Citizenship

“WASHINGTON (AP) — President Donald Trump is making another hardline immigration play in the final days before the midterm elections, declaring that he wants to order an end to the constitutional right to citizenship for babies born in the United States to non-citizens. Most scholars think he can’t implement such a change unilaterally.“With seven days to go before high-stakes elections that he has sought to focus on fearmongering over immigration, Trump made the comments to ‘Axios on HBO.’ Trump, seeking to energize his supporters and help Republicans keep control of Congress, has stoked anxiety about a caravan of Central American migrants making its way to the U.S.-Mexico border.“Trump has long called for an end to birthright citizenship, as have many conservatives. An executive order would spark an uphill legal battle for Trump about whether the president has the unilateral ability to declare that children born in the U.S. to those living here illegally aren’t citizens. Most scholars think he can’t…“The Pew Research Center found in a survey published two years ago that births to ‘unauthorized immigrants’ were declining and accounted for about 1 in 3 births to foreign-born mothers in the U.S. in 2014. About 275,000 babies were born to such parents in 2014, or about 7 percent of the 4 million births in the U.S. that year, according to Pew estimates based on government data. That represented a decline from 330,000 in 2009, at the end of the recession.”▶️ Donate Now: http://www.freedomainradio.com/donate▶️ Sign Up For Our Newsletter: http://www.fdrurl.com/newsletterYour support is essential to Freedomain Radio, which is 100% funded by viewers like you. 4225 A Star Is Born: Freedomain Movie Review

“A Star Is Born” is a perfectly constructed allegory for fame being the hide of bright armor that people encase themselves in when they are broken and hollow inside. The film is full of extravagant flash and dazzle – Bradley Cooper’s supposedly down-home country musician half-beating bluegrass to death with hard rock guitar shredding – Lady Gaga’s frustrated small-time waitress erupting into big time talent with a geyser of fiery shiny vocals - the one star rising as the other dims and dies, like an interstellar cycle of life and death. The predatory personalities that circle money gushing talent like the remora fish that feed on the scraps of shark’s meals, while ending up actually eating the entire shark - the proud father who jovially crushes his daughter’s talents because he never had the guts to follow his own ambition - the lure of moneymaking in art, the strange sexlessness of top-tier artistic achievement, and the constant temptation to trade one’s soul for the empty highs of money, fame, cheering crowds and crushing addictions.Bradley Cooper plays Jackson Maine – the main character, I get it – a half-washed up country blues singer who plays old songs to aging crowds. His deep back story emerges like sheet lightning flashes throughout the movie, and is consistently ignored by those around him. He grew up in the middle of nowhere, with an alcoholic father who roped him into being a drinking buddy as a child. Jackson Maine’s mother died in childbirth, his father also died young, and the boy tried to hang himself when he was only 13 years old. This is the horrifying and painful back story to his addictions - to fame, sex, alcohol, drugs, you name it – but the real addiction is to worshiping his abusive father. There is a titanic battle within Jackson - referred to by his older manager/brother - that Jackson reveres his father, but his father was a terrible human being. In one scene, Jackson goes to visit his father’s grave, on the old ranch, only to find out that his brother has sold the ranch. He goes and punches his brother, who tells Jackson that he should stop worshiping his father.▶️ Donate Now: http://www.freedomainradio.com/donate▶️ Sign Up For Our Newsletter: http://www.fdrurl.com/newsletterYour support is essential to Freedomain Radio, which is 100% funded by viewers like you. 4217 One Night Last Stand - Call In Show - October 3rd, 2018

Question 1: [1:23] - "I've been thinking a lot about the qualities I need and desire in a lifelong mate, and I'm wondering if I'm holding my partners to an unrealistic or foolish standard. I recently broke up with a woman because I didn't find our conversations to be substantive enough to really sustain a relationship decades into the future. In short, I didn't think my needs for intellectual stimulation were being met within the romantic relationship. Since then, however, I've been wondering if I'm expecting too much from one person. I also want to make sure that I'm not evaluating female romantic partners with the same criteria I would a male friend. Is it possible to be in a healthy and lasting relationship in which one person's intellectual needs are met outside of the relationship: via work, friends, and solitary activities such as reading books? Or is compartmentalizing such a big part of my life a surefire way to end up resenting the other person and feeling stifled?"Question 2: [34:07] – “Do you think young people should be encouraged to have strong opinions on government and politics? Upon reflection the strong convictions I had one way or another haven't done me any favors. I don't think they are doing other young people any favors either. It's alienated me and others for no practical reason, it's pushed many of my former classmates to being unemployable, and the convictions are founded more upon indoctrination rather than real world experience or understanding.”Question 3: [45:34] – “I'm a 25-year-old woman in a committed relationship of 4 years. Since the beginning of the relationship, I have done practically a 180 in terms of my political views, and beliefs in general. I'm a college dropout, which I now consider to be a blessing since I'd probably be working the same job I am now, had I finished, and now have only $6,000 of debt left on my student loans. My boyfriend (hopefully future husband) is a teacher who is buried in debt from graduate school. He is the primary bread-winner, but I've recently discovered that he owes much more in student debt than I had previously thought. This realization has caused us both a great deal of stress in recent weeks. I work in HR and contribute much less than half, but still a fair chunk of our living expenses. You've said quite often that women are most happy in the home. I didn't think this way for most of my late teens and early twenties... But as I've come into my mid-twenties, I find myself being much more aware of my indoctrination in that regard. I've realized that I'd love to be a stay at home mother. I don't think it's quite too late for me, but it almost is. How can we manage a traditional life in this day and age, with two incomes being practically required? Do we have to be rich for me to be a stay at home mom? Is there any hope for me, for us, to do our small part to improve the world by giving our children a stable, healthy upbringing?”Question 4: [1:52:00] – “I'm a 22-year-old college student entering my final year of college who was raised by a family that personifies the term "Bible Belt". I recently began to date this girl whose sexual history consists only of one-night stands up until me. I knew about the one-night stands before we began dating but I proceeded to pursue her anyways. I have negative thoughts and emotions about these one-night stands constantly and there has been an incident where I was compared to one of the guys she slept with. Even after speaking to her about that, I still cannot seem to get it out of my head and we never arrived at any closure. How do I process and cope with these thoughts and emotions? Am I just subconsciously looking for a way to end the relationship because her history goes against my morals and values?”Your support is essential to Freedomain Radio, which is 100% funded by viewers like you.
