Today’s Topic: Planning Long-term Travel   A few people have asked how we specifically chose the eight or so destinations that we're traveling in over this four month journey in Europe. So today we’re looking at the process we went through to determine where we were going.   We knew that my mastermind was going to start in Monaco. And I had another one four months later that was starting in Florence, Italy. So we knew that we had that space in between.    If you’re American you can’t actually stay in European countries that are part of the Schengen zone for four months unless you have some weird visa so we had to include some places that are outside of the Schengen zone. For those we chose Croatia and Montenegro.   We literally looked at a map of the world, and we zoomed in on places then looked at YouTube videos and Airbnb reviews. As we’re travelling for a long time we check if the Airbnbs have things like a stove and somewhere to do laundry. When you’re booking Airbnbs, really think about your lifestyle. Are you going to be able to get up the stairs? Do you need a terrace? Do you need to make sure you have more than one bedroom? How is it set up in the kitchen? What we love with Airbnb is that you can reach out to the owners and ask them these questions. If you’re going to be working from the Airbnb, I would strongly recommend that you ask them if they can do a speed test on their internet.Renting a car in Europe has been kind of a pain in the ass. We pre-booked (but didn’t pay for) for a car online for when we got to Montenegro then found out they wanted to charge twice as much when we went to pick it up. So we’ve found it better to negotiate in person.    You also want to look at the ease of travel from place to place. Are there direct flights? Do we need a car at the destination? We’ve used Skyscanner.com to find cheap flights and Ryanair and easyJet are good affordable airlines for flights within Europe.Check the weather. We were going to go to Marrakech then realized it was going to be 120 degrees in August and we would have been like little ants roasting on the desert floor. We made a spreadsheet to budget for our trip and then reverse engineered a way to make that amount of money through Kim’s network marketing company and prepaid for everything. We recommend you don’t eat all your meals out when you’re traveling for a good amount of time. It's just too much to ask of yourself financially and too much to ask of your body - you'll look like buffalo mozzarella if you're not careful. Finally, dream big when you’re planning. Create a giant list (we wrote all our ideas out on big sticky notes) then look over them and visualize each step in the journey so you can work out what’s feasible.
