In this episode, Adrianne sits down with nurse and former co-worker Macy Hall. 2020 has thrown Macy a number of challenges. One of those challenges was being reassigned from her outpatient clinic job to her hospital’s emergency COVID ICU. Though Macy has previous relevant bedside experience, it’s been a while and it’s been a challenge to re-acclimate to the world of acute care.Macy and Adrianne talk about things like:- How Macy was called back to the bedside- What this “new” ICU has been like and the acuity of her COVID+ patients- Role anxiety and how she’s making it work- The difference between COVID ICU patients and chronically ill respiratory patients- The pros and cons of team nursing - Being a COVID nurse with young kids at home- Challenges for leadership- Self-care and the benefits of counselingThanks to Macy for being such an open book about her experiences during this pandemic. We all have different challenges to face and it’s good to normalize talking about what we’re going through, good and bad. Sharing our challenges and victories develops our empathy, keeps us connected, and gives us perspective in an unprecedented time. It’s worthwhile to note that about a week after recording this, Macy got her first of two COVID vaccine injections. As of the time of publishing, she is doing fine. Like this episode?
