Ephesians 5:8-11 says: "For you were once darkness, but now you are light in the Lord. Live as children of light (for the fruit of the light consists in all goodness, righteousness and truth) and find out what pleases the Lord. Have nothing to do with the fruitless deeds of darkness, but rather expose them." (NIV) While here Paul talks about "the fruit of the light," he echoes similarly in Galatians 5:22-23 where he uses the term, "fruit of the Spirit." Before coming to Christ, we were rightly called, "darkness" because of the sinful lives we lived. But Jesus, in making us His own though His death on the cross, now deems us, "children of light." So the expectation is that the transformation that's been brought forth in our hearts by the grace of God via the Holy Spirit will produce the same kind of dramatic transformation in our actions. Jesus said, "You will know them by their fruits…” So it’s fair to say that others will know us by our fruits and that, among other things, is a humbling thought...
