While my original goal in making this episode was to point out and therefore help you memorise better the difference between "deception" in French and "deception" in English, I was surprised to find out that the two words were more related than I thought! Insights into the origins of words is so fascinating! Come on board for a short French vocabulary session…we’ll also do a tiny bit of French conjugation ;-)

Vocabulary and Spelling of the French Words mentioned in this episode

Déçu,e / désappointée = disappointed

déçu,e = pp du verbe décevoir

décevoir = to disappoint

je déçois, nous décevons, ils déçoivent

Une déception = adisappointment, disillusion

une déception amoureuse, une déception sentimentale = a romantic disappointment, an unhappy love affair

le désappointement (trouble, déception) = disappointment, dissatisfaction

une tromperie / duperie / supercherie = a deception

tromper / duper = to deceive

trompeur, trompeuse = deceptive, misleading

Tromper quelqu’un dans son attente, son espérance = to fool/deceive someone in their expectations, their hopes

Il m’a déçu par son comportement.

Le film m’a vraiment déçue = The movie really disappointed me / I was really disappointed by the movie.
