The Good, The Bad, and The What!?

GBW #18: Cage Match Vol. 1 - In the Nic of Time (The Rock / Gone in 60 Seconds / Con Air)

Listen Later

Hello, and welcome to another episode of The Good, The Bad, and The What!? The show in which we discuss three films that we have deemed "good," "bad," or "what!?" within a subgenre, theme, motif, director or actor's filmography, and more!

On this week's episode, Chris and Ryan dive into the first of a new subseries entitled "Cage Match," in honor of the great Nicholas Cage. Given the wide gamut of films in Cage's filmography - across many genres and to varying degrees of quality - we figured discussing his career occasionally through various genres made sense, and for this episode, Chris chose Nic Cage action films, specifically those with a "ticking clock" element (and all from the Jerry Bruckheimer factory). We start with 1996's "The Rock," Michael Bay's action masterpiece and the origin story for "Nic Cage: Action Hero," following up with 2000's forgettable "Gone in 60 Seconds," before concluding with the "trashterpiece" that brought Chris and Ryan to blows: 1997's "Con Air" (one of them really does not like the film while the other stands by its schlocky charms).
