Sharing a Snack Excerpt:

The sun warmed the land easily without a cloud in the sky to block its rays. The baby giraffes relaxed with their mamas in the warm light. Giselle Giraffe looked up at her beautiful mama and beamed. The little giraffe loved being with her mama, and she stuck right next to her, always. Her mama looked down at Giselle, smiled, and gave her a gentle nudge. “Giselle, I’m going with some of the other mamas to get some food. It will be safer for you to stay here with the other little giraffes and the rest of the mamas.” Giselle looked at her mama, feeling her eyes fill with tears. She had never been away from her mama before and the thought scared her. “Do you have to go?” She asked.

Her mama smiled and said, “All the mama giraffes take turns going off for some food. Now, it’s my turn. I’ll be back before you know it.” Mama looked carefully at Giselle and saw that her little giraffe was feeling worried, so she decided to introduce her to one of the other giraffes. “Giselle meet Ginny. She will look after you while I’m gone.” Giselle looked up at the kind giraffe smiling down at her. Ginny seemed nice, she just wasn’t Giselle’s mama. The little giraffe nuzzled her mama, and her mama gently groomed Giselle’s head. “If you get nervous remember to take your deep dragon breaths. I’ll be back soon.” And with that Giselle’s mama left. The little giraffe felt sad as she watched her mama leave, so she took a deep dragon breath in and out. She could still see her mama, and her mama was smiling. Giselle took another deep dragon breath in and out, and realized if her mom felt happy everything was OK.
